Control costs, improve systems, protect fish!
Alliance Redwoods has partnered with Camp Meeker and Occidental in sharing the operational costs of our water system for the sake of the people and fish affected by the Dutch Bill Watershed. This partnership will help control utility rates and improve water system resiliency. But to complete this goal, Alliance needs your financial support. Here’s why:
The total cost of this project was originally estimated to run $1.5 million dollars, which will upgrade the entire water system by replacing aging pumps and control systems, and increasing capacity. Our partner, the Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District, has already secured grants of $1.5 million, but due to skyrocketing material and labor costs, an additional $500,000 needs to be raised through more grants and donations. Alliance Redwoods has committed to raise $100,000 of this and we are asking our donors and neighbors to help us meet and exceed this goal.
With your tax-deductible donation to Alliance Redwoods by year’s end, we can complete this vital project and help keep our water rates under control. This is more than a one-time investment, it represents an important win for our people and our fish for generations to come!
What’s the Water Issue?
Dutch Bill Creek is a vital salmon spawning ground and wildlife habitat, but during the summer the creek can dry up, destroying the fish habitat and causing a loss of wildlife. Government grants over the past several years have invested millions to maintain Dutch Bill Creek, and Alliance Redwoods has done its part to keep the creek clean, safe, and the water flowing.
What’s the Solution?
But there is one final step. With Alliance Redwoods transferring our water rights this year to Camp Meeker’s back-up well at the confluence of Dutch Bill Creek and the Russian River, we can now allow Redwood Gulch, that runs through our property, to run freely into Dutch Bill Creek starting in 2024. This will enhance stream flow and provide endangered Coho Salmon and Steelhead with the critical flow they need in the summer months for the juvenile fish to thrive. Alliance Redwoods’s partnership with Camp Meeker and Occidental revolutionizes the way both people and fish get the water they need to survive.
Benefits to Community
This project will eliminate Alliance’s diversion of surface water from Dutch Bill Creek tributaries. It will satisfy potable water demand to the bottom of the Dutch Bill watershed. Both of these actions will work to keep the creek flowing during the summer, when juvenile fish are present.
What You Can Do
This is an urgent need! Without water the fish die and humans suffer. Your generous tax-deductible gift will ensure that Alliance Redwoods can continue its work with children, youth, and adults to be a place of recreation, outdoor education, and spiritual renewal.
